Quilling Strip Storage with Pushpins

A rat’s nest no more – I finally found a method of viewing all my strips at one time. Push pins on foam core help stretch out my poor pretzeled strips. I can access any color and not worry about re-bagging or unintentional crimping from a lid of a hastily packed box. Perhaps I might even label the brand and color along the side. No wonder I’ve been called OC…

Quilled Wedding Cake

Micahael’s sells extremely thick quilling strips that normally fray on me when quilling small tight details – they make excellent borders though. I first started glueing the 3 tiers of cake together and pinned them to cork to prevent shifting, then filled the inside with frosting – with a hidden heart in the bottom tier of course.

Measurements:
• top tier: 6 cm (fold at 1.5 x 3 x 1.5 cm)
• middle: 9 cm (fold at 2 x 5 x 2 cm)
• bottom: 9 cm (fold at 2.5 x 7 x 2.5 cm)
• card: 5×7 inches

Birthday Card in Die Cut Vinyl

Fell in love with this birthday design sold on the Silhouette Die Cut store – it inspired me to make a similar one for my nephew who just turned 8. I’m lucky enough to know someone who gives me vinyl scraps from their sign shop, destined for the landfill. Too small for commercial work, these scraps are the perfect size for cards. Each empty space is a piece of vinyl that must be “weeded” out by hand – something infinitely more challenging to do when it’s small text. It’s such a thrilling feeling when they say “You made this? I thought you bought it.”

Pop Up Pear Wedding Card

She loves to garden and give pop-up cards, so what better way to express a well matched pair on their wedding day? I was thrilled to find just the right speckly paper to convey the freckles found on asian pears. Paper used:
Pears: Fox Paper, Circa Select, Concrete, 80 lb Cover
Card: Curious Iridescents, 89 lb Cover
Text: Self Adhesive Vinyl, Dark Red, Metallic Gold
